Royan Institute Hosts Research Day Ceremony Honoring Scientific Excellence
On 18 December 2025, Royan Institute hosted a special ceremony to mark Research Day.
According to the Public Relations Office of Royan Institute, the event was held to honor the Institute’s scientific and research achievements and to acknowledge the dedicated efforts of its researchers, managers, and staff.
The ceremony opened with remarks by Dr. Shahzadeh Fazeli, Vice President for Research and Technology of Royan Institute. In his welcoming address, and with particular appreciation for the presence of Dr. Parvin Passalar, a distinguished professor at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, he described Royan Institute as analogous to a “stem cell”—an entity that continuously grows, differentiates, and evolves across diverse scientific disciplines. Dr. Fazeli emphasized that, grounded in a profound belief in the capabilities of Iranian scientists, Royan Institute is steadily advancing toward attaining its rightful position on the global scientific stage, while consistently striving to preserve and revitalize the legacy of Iran’s eminent scholars, including Avicenna (Ibn Sina) and Zakariya Razi, within the domain of science.
He further highlighted the strategic importance of prioritizing applied and interdisciplinary research, noting that such research not only results in scientific publications but also contributes to the development of technologies, products, and technical expertise. He stated that interdisciplinary studies—ranging from basic sciences and engineering to artificial intelligence—constitute essential tools for accelerating clinical trials and effectively addressing the needs of patients with refractory and incurable diseases.
In the continuation of the ceremony, Dr. Shahvardi, President of Royan Institute, extended his congratulations on the occasion of Research Day. He described Royan Institute as the product of three decades of sustained effort by committed researchers and staff, referring to it as a “haven of hope, life, and progress.” He noted that Royan today is not merely a research institute, but rather a symbol of courageous and devoted researchers who, empowered by scientific knowledge, transcend unknown frontiers and strive to save human lives. Dr. Shahvardi also underscored the distinguished status of research in Iran’s scientific culture and history, characterizing research as a process initiated by the courage to question and sustained through unwavering commitment to truth.
Dr. Parvin Passalar, Professor of Biochemistry at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, was also present at the ceremony. In addition to reflecting on her scientific experiences, she reviewed the performance of Royan Institute and its achievements across various research fields.
The ceremony concluded with the recognition of selected exemplary colleagues of Royan Institute and the presentation of awards and special gifts. The event once again demonstrated Royan Institute’s firm commitment to advancing scientific research, fostering technological development, and serving human health, and stood as a testament to the dedication, innovation, and perseverance of its researchers on the path of scientific and technological progress.
